What to Expect? (+) This is a monumental tour, starting with a visit to the imposing Sanctuary of Fatima, one of the largest in Europe and the place where one of the main apparitions of Virgin Mary (Virgem Maria) of Fátima is celebrated. Religious or not, this place will not leave anyone indifferent. The following journey is the visit to the Monastery of Batalha, one of the most fascinating gothic monuments of the Iberian Peninsula, built by D. João I, Mestre Avis in 1386, as a celebration of the victory against Spanish army in Aljubarrota, where the Portuguese had a numerical handicap of 4 to 1. This monastery has also become a UNESCO heritage since 1993. We follow our journey to Nazaré fishing village and it is lunch time, the seafood in Nazaré is amazing. Continuing our visit through the city of Nazaré, recognized internationally by the famous giant waves (20 to 30 meters) on the North beach, where the Cannon of Nazaré occurs and creates waves of unreasonable proportions. It is an area increasingly sought by surfers of this particularity, mainly during winter. Visit the Sítio in Nazaré, a viewpoint where you can admire the whole city at your feet and the wide Atlantic Ocean. To finish the tour, we arrive at Óbidos, a place that needs no introduction, as it is the most beautiful and well preserved medieval village in Europe, where you can wander through its narrow roads, appreciating local commerce and craftsmen and with a bit of luck even taste freshly baked bread in a wood fired oven. To wrap it up, it is mandatory to taste one (or more…) famous Ginjinha de Óbidos, an exceptional cherry liquor that has won dozens of international awards over the years. Overview (-)
