Before you start Meet with your local guide, at your accommodation (Lisbon and surroundings) and he is going to give you all the information you need and go with you to the rental office. You are going to leave Lisbon with a rental car, a cellphone with a portuguese number to call us in case you need and the route to take in the GPS.

Day 1 (+) Before starting your Portugal Road trip It is a day to discover the capital of the “Empire”, you are going to discover Lisbon, we have the best spots for you to visit in a day tour in the city. You are discovering breathtaking views of the city, historical monuments, walk along old neighborhoods filled with traditions and funny people on it. Day 2 (+) Today you are visiting Sintra, Cascais and some Atlantic beaches. Sintra is one of the jewels of the crown in Lisbon area, since the 15th century become the favorite holiday resort for the royalty and nobles. You are visiting the Pena Palace (the highlight), the historical center of the village and Regaleira palace and gardens. After Sintra, we suggest you exploring the beach area, Azenhas do Mar, Roca Cape (the westernmost point of continental Portugal), Guincho beach and end in the resort town of Cascais. The way to Lisbon is a highlight itself, you come in along the ocean and the riverfront of the city.

Day 3 (+) Your roadtrip through the roads of Portugal is about to begin. Don’t forget your Portugal road map and your phone and let the adventure begins. Driving North on the way of Fátima the religious main point of the country that leaves no one indiferente, mainly the visit to the sanctuary. After Fátima you continue heading North until you reach Coimbra, the university city, a visit to the 700 years old university is mandatory, take a walk in the old town area and river front. To take a rest from cities you are going to end the day in a nature sanctuary, the national wood of Buçaco, a hidden treasure, that we’re sure you’re going to love.
One of the accomodation that we have for you is a king’s palace (Palace hotel of Buçaco) built in 1888 in the middle of the wood.
Day 4 (+) After you leave the tranquility and mystic of Buçaco, continue your journey North, towards Aveiro, the Portuguese Venice, we reserved for you a “Moliceiro” a typical boat used in the past to catch seaweeds, used today to slide along the canals of the city center, don’t Forget to taste the typical pastry of Aveiro the soft eggs (Ovos moles). Pick up your road map and it is time to drive to the city of Porto, start exploring the port wine cellars (with some tastings, of course), and then dive into the city starting by the riverfront neighborhood of Ribeira and a visit to Palacio da Bolsa.
Park your car and walk along this amazing city full of life and interesting spots to see, including Lello book shop (Connected with the Harry Potter saga) and Clérigos tower (the best view in town).
Day 5 (+) Wake up in Porto and take advantage of the city a little bit longer, we suggest you to take a walk in downtown and visit Aliados avenue and Liberty square, the S.Bento railway station and its magnificente tiles as well as the Sé Cathedral, walking distance from the railway station. After leaving Porto and continuing our road trip, head towards Braga, another city filled with historical and interesting places to visit, we suggest you Bom Jesus Sanctuary, the townhall square and surrounding neighborhoods and a visit to the Cathedral.
Last but not least head towards the city where Portugal was born, Guimarães.
In the central area you still have the feeling that you are walking in medieval times, take an evening walk around the center and just…enjoy.
Day 6 (+) On the last day of this Portugal self drive tour we have a surprise for you. Overview (-)
Enjoy the morning at Guimarães and get in touch with the history of the foundation of the country. We suggest you a morning visit to the Guimarães Castle, where Dom Afonso Henriques in 1128, at S. Mamede field defeated his mother and his cousin of the Kingdom of Castela (Spain), this victory culminates some years later in the Foundation of Portugal in 1143, after the pope recognition.
In front of the castle, we advise you the visit to the Paço Ducal dos Duques de Bragança, a palace built in the 15th century and the main palace of the dinasty that rulled Portugal from 1640 until 1910.
The surprise is Amarante, this lovely little city in the heart of the country, spreads along the Tâmega river and is also known by its pastries. Take a walk in the center along the river and visit S.Gonçalo church and convent, built by D.João III in the 16th century.
After relaxing and enjoying at Amarante is time to start your journey back to Lisbon, you have a 3.5 hours journey back to the capital.
